Gift of the Spirit: Word of Wisdom

In 1 Corinthians 12:8, the Word of Wisdom is listed as one of the gifts of the Spirit. This gift enables a believer to speak a message that is beyond human wisdom and understanding. It is not simply knowledge or information, but a divine insight into a situation or problem that can only be explained by the wisdom of God.

One example of the Word of Wisdom in action can be seen in the book of Acts. In Acts 27, Paul was on a ship with over 200 other people that was caught in a severe storm. The crew had been trying to keep the ship afloat, but they had reached a point of desperation. Paul, however, received a Word of Wisdom from God and was able to share with the crew that they needed to stay on the ship and trust that God would bring them through the storm safely. The crew listened to Paul’s message and ultimately survived the storm.

The Word of Wisdom is not something that can be gained through human effort or study. It is a gift that can only be given by God. As believers, we must be open and receptive to the Spirit of God and be willing to use our gifts to serve others and glorify Him.

Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” As we seek to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with God, let us also seek to be open to the gifts of the Spirit, including the Word of Wisdom. Let us trust that God will give us the wisdom and insight we need to navigate the challenges of life and serve others with the love of Christ.
