Gift of the Spirit: Interpretation of Tongues

The gift of interpretation of tongues is an important gift. In the book of Acts, we see how the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. But without the gift of interpretation, these tongues would be meaningless to those who were listening. As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 14:5, “I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.” This gift allows for the communication of messages from God to the body of Christ through the use of tongues.

The gift of interpretation of tongues is not just the ability to translate a foreign language but also the ability to interpret what is being said in the spiritual realm. It takes a level of sensitivity to the Holy Ghost to discern the meaning behind the words being spoken in tongues.

We see an example of the gift of interpretation in Acts 2:4-11, where the disciples were speaking in tongues, and the people from various nations were amazed because they heard their own language being spoken. This miraculous occurrence drew people to Christ and helped to spread the gospel.

We should pray for and seek after the gift of interpretation of tongues. It allows us to receive messages from God in a unique way and enables us to be a blessing to others in the body of Christ. Let us strive to be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to use us to communicate His message of love and hope to a hurting world.
