The Gift of Friendship

Let us take a moment to reflect on the gift of friendship that God has bestowed upon us. As we turn to the Scriptures of Proverbs and John, we see the wisdom and love that God has for us through the friendships that we have.

Proverbs 17:17 reminds us that a friend loves at all times. This kind of love is unconditional and true, and it is something that we should strive for in our friendships. In John 15:13, Jesus tells us that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend. This kind of love is sacrificial and selfless, just as Jesus showed us on the cross.

Proverbs 27:17 tells us that iron sharpens iron, and so one friend sharpens another. This means that we can grow and learn from our friendships, and that we can become better people because of them. As we walk through life, we need friends who will challenge us and encourage us in our faith.

Let us not forget that Jesus Himself had close friendships during His time on earth. He had His disciples, and He had a special bond with John, who is often referred to as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” In John 15:15, Jesus calls His disciples friends, and He invites us to be His friends as well.

Let us cherish the friendships that God has given us. Let us strive for true, unconditional love in our relationships, and let us seek out friends who will encourage us and challenge us in our faith. Let us be willing to lay down our lives for our friends, just as Jesus did for us. And let us remember that Jesus is not only our Savior, but also our friend. Let us walk in the love of Christ and experience the joy that comes with having meaningful friendships.
